Can’t Sleep At Night?

As busy moms and dad’s we have so much going on inside of our minds that we can’t seem to stop the constant flow of mental traffic that keeps moving through our heads.  Many of us sleep with lights and television’s on and our phones and computers close by. So, not only are we distracted mentally by our thoughts, we create physical distractions that prevent us from sleeping in peace and silence. Well, here are a few tips that you can use to help get a restful nights sleep.

First, eliminate noise, sound and light.  If your mate sleeps comfortable with these distractions, look into getting a soft mask that will cover your eyes or use headphones.

Secondly, try a few drops of lavender essential oil on your hands and massage into your skin just before bed.  The calming and relaxing effects of lavender essential oil show up when applied topically because of the direct impact on the brain when the volatile organic compounds are absorbed  through the skin!

Third, Try to do relaxing activities before bed like a warm bath, stretching exercises, reading a book or just being quiet and not talking for 15 minutes. Try it, it really works!

Finally, Stay away from heavy meals before bed.  Avoid going to bed stuffed or hungry. Avoid caffeine and alcohol too. The stimulating effects of nicotine and caffeine take hours to wear off and can wreak havoc on quality sleep. And even though alcohol might make you feel sleepy, it can disrupt sleep later in the night.
